Casa Alma is a community rooted in prayer. We believe that prayer nourishes us for work in the world and increases our awareness of the joys and sufferings of those around us. Prayer attunes us to the holiness of the universe we live in, and draws us nearer to both our own innate sacredness and to the Divine.
Over the years, we have hosted a many opportunities for people to gather together in prayerful silence, song, reading of scripture and other wisdom writings, and contemplative retreats. See samples from our ecumenical Lenten prayer and Advent prayer series. We also host times of prayer and conversation specifically for women.

In the “prayer of the heart” we seek first of all the deepest ground of our identity in God…Our prayer becomes our silent sinking in the sea of being that is at once God and ourselves.”
-James Finley
“Prayer is an interior practice that changes us.”
-Richard Rohr
When we gather for evening prayer, we begin with this welcome: Wherever you are in your faith or life journey, whatever you do or have done, however you identify, and whomever you love, you are made in the image of God and are warmly welcome in this time of prayer and community.
Our prayer is rooted in the Catholic, monastic tradition. We give special emphasis to lift up women’s voices, and to use gender-inclusive or feminine names for God. Our aim is to be nourished by a gentle and joyful rhythm of prayer, and by an encounter with God within and among us.
